Principal Consultant, G&H International
Rob Dudgeon’s three decades in emergency services started as a paramedic and led him to become Deputy Director of San Francisco’s Department of Emergency Management. Now in the private sector, Mr. Dudgeon provides consulting services focused on local communities, businesses and government with G&H International. Focusing on decision support technologies and strategic thinking around data usability he continues his career of innovation in building resilient, smart communities.
While in San Francisco Mr. Dudgeon led change across the spectrum of EMS and emergency management. With an emphasis on interagency coordination and external stakeholder engagement his team revolutionized the City’s practices in event management, social media, public preparedness and special events planning and execution.
Mr. Dudgeon has a long history of coloring outside the traditional emergency management lines. From “breaking” plan format rules to working directly with the military to merging San Francisco’s emergency medical services agency with emergency management he spent his career in local government pushing past barriers and building an internationally recognized program. Believing that innovation should be a key part of government and not a reluctant afterthought, he led the early adoption of social media in emergency management, partnered with academia and a number of tech companies to capitalize on the latest thinking, and adopted human centric design principals for planning and messaging projects. In learning from experts in communications, design, technology, the military, and academia he brings a richer context to the field and helps others move their plans from dusty bookshelves to fully integrated practices within their organizations.
