Emergency Manager / Medical Advisor, Clackamas Fire District #1 and Oregon National Guard
Mr. Ramirez is the Emergency Manager for Clackamas Fire District #1 and a Medical Officer in the Army National Guard. These positions afford Gregg the opportunity to see Emergency Management issues from both the civilian and military perspectives. He has the unique experience of having been one of the last people evacuated from New Orleans just ahead of Hurricane Katrina. Upon his safe return home he found out his Army unit was being deployed to New Orleans as part of the relief effort. The experience he gained working in New Orleans has greatly shaped his approach to his work in disaster preparedness.
In his current Emergency Management position, Gregg works closely with local government stakeholders and community groups to build disaster resilience. The Pacific NW is currently preparing for the inevitable Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake. Gregg’s work focuses on preparing families and communities to be self-reliant for the anticipated two week response time of local, state, federal and military officials.
Gregg is a frequent speaker at a variety of venues including Res/Con. His presentations include: Disaster preparedness, specific medical topics, hazardous materials decontamination and, point of injury care for Law Enforcement and Military personnel.
Gregg is a dynamic and engaging speaker. His presentations invite audience participation. His presentation is meant to be a call to action and his intent is to energize people to be better prepared and to share the preparedness message.
