Over the last decade, science and technology have played a critical role in supporting and shaping a community’s preparation prior to and response and recovery efforts after a disaster occurs. During a crisis, when time is compressed, resources are limited, and lives and property are on the line, the conduct, communication, and application of science and technological innovations are particularly important. Together, these tools hold promise for advancing the national resilience agenda by improving our knowledge of complex systems, informing meaningful communication, and forging critical connections between systems, data streams, and communities. This panel discussion will showcase different kinds of tools, from scenarios and visualizations to drones and apps, which are being used to improve situational awareness, scientific understanding, and policy decisions during response efforts across different sectors
