mitchNew Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu

The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center would like to sincerely thank Mayor Mitch Landrieu for his extraordinary commitment to resilience last week during the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP21, in Paris.  Making this commitment to such a critical existential issue alongside an elite cadre of international leaders is a momentous undertaking for New Orleans: putting our City in the forefront of global leadership on issues of climate change, sea level rise and community advancement.

Having pledged to contribute 10% of the City of New Orleans’ budget to “resiliency goals,” the Mayor has continued to elevate the importance and impact of the “Resilient New Orleans” plan released in August of 2015.  Supported by the Rockefeller Foundation and its “100 Resilient Cities” initiative, this plan sets forth a holistic strategy for resilience enhancing activities—from fighting crime through NOLA for Life, to addressing environmental concerns via the “Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan.”

As the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and Greater New Orleans, Inc. (GNO, Inc.) prepare for a new iteration of the IDCE (The International Disaster Conference & EXPO), the newly rebranded RES/CON or “Resiliency Conference” is perfectly in tandem with the Mayor’s commitment and exciting new direction for the City.  As attendees from around the world gather in New Orleans March 1 -3, 2016 at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center at the premier international event on successful resilience and disaster management practices in an evolving global environment, they will do so in an atmosphere and urban setting truly reflective of these resilience aims.

RES/CON will provide a unique convening platform to connect, identify, and collectively develop creative standards and solutions that will result in the mitigation of loss of life and property during disaster situations. The event will offer Exhibits, Speaker Forums, Case Studies, Thought Leadership, Idea Exchanges, Solution Creation, Networking and more.

There is no other conference that brings together such diversity of attendees, in such a contextually appropriate and compelling setting, and the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and GNO, Inc. sincerely thank the Mayor for his steadfast commitment to these shared principles.
